You have made a grammtical error, young man: "and would rather prefer a bit of peace". It should read "and would rather have a bit of peace" or "would prefer a bit of peace" but not the catastrophic mixture of the two that you have shoved down our throats.

My way of surviving children and in fact all public transport in america is a pair of noise cancelling headphones, an ipod, a pair of knitting needles, and some cheap yarn... the cheap yarn being vital since children with greasy fingers are drawn to expensive yarn...

Yes, it's really really scary. Especially if you have good headphones that block out all the sound.
