100 days to Christmas!

Yes, I am still here. Contrary to popular belief, I haven't spent the past two weeks on Facebook - in fact, I haven't spent the past two weeks doing anything much on the computer other than work. Instead, I've been getting up to quite a bit away in the real world (yes yes, the graphics are amazing, blah blah).

Leela and I have spent a couple of weekends at our homes; we went to Cornwall to see her mum and had a very nice barbeque, and last weekend we went to Kent to see my dad and my gran. This weekend, however, Leela is on call, so not much fun today. The weeks have been busy too - late nights getting back from London, had some friends over for food, and with all the little things that need doing, it's surprising just how fast time flies.

In other news, work is going well, and in general life is good. Makes a change!

I'm also finding quite a bit of time for my out-of-hours projects - my framework is now running 5 live sites, and I've got 3 or 4 small things nearly ready for release. See, I do get stuff finished!

Imminent miscellanea: I have pre-ordered the orange box and am looking forward to playing TF2 beta after work on Monday (and will have spare HL2 and HL2 ep1 keys if anyone wants them); I am gradually working my way through the messages on my facebook wall and replying to them, sorry if you're still waiting; and I need a new mobile phone by the end of the month, am looking at the Nokia N73 and N95, suggestions welcome.

I think that's caught up with everything. Hopefully, normal service shall now resume.

I have the n95 and I like it. Very nice phone. Not used the GPS much on it but a word of warning - battery life isn't great on them, I have to charge mine nearly every day or every 2 days a far cry from the 6310i which used to only need charged every 7 days!

David

Definitely avoid the 6280... worst Nokia phone I've used. (Apart from creeky's gold covered one with the 1980s era ringtones)

Bud

Well, I liked my 6280 at first but as it got older it started having odd faults like it being restricted at startup (thinking your sim isn't one allowed with the simlock). Although I tried a firmware update with the nokia software on it and turned it into a brick :-P

They did say they fixed it with the 6288, but apparently that still has a lot of the old problems.

Battery life is the one thing that worries me about the N95 - I can see myself having to carry a battery charger around with me all day. Well, battery life and the price :p

Bud

The n95 comes with an ickle battery charger, smaller than most 13 amp plugtops. When I am in the car I have it connected to the car charger so its not too bad.

The n95 is pricey but its so nice, but T-Mobile gave me a very good price for one when I renewed the very first the handset was out.

Mmm, I'm with t-mobile, but on their cheapest tarrif, so am looking at ~£250 iirc.

Am very tempted by it. Mmm, 3g interwebs on the train. Of course, I'd still have to battle with the keypad to type urls in, so not sure how happy I'd be with that. Noticed you can get a keyboard for it though... ;)

Oh, and a new version just came out in the USA, didn't it; bigger battery, better interface etc. Not sure I want to pay £250 for an obsolete version when they'll probably update them here soon.

If I could I'd wait it out, but the my contract is up at the end of the month, and it'll go up by 25% unless I persuade them to let me sign up to another 25% deal, but that's only running until October.

Bud

Didn't you sign up when it was the 25% off for life providing you dont change tarrif? That was the deal I was on.

Ah, yes, you are right! And I guess getting a new phone and adding a web+walk package wouldn't count as a new tariff, so I'd be ok.

Hmm... will wait for the 8gb N95 then! Apparently there are minor cosmetic improvements, better battery, and twice as much ram making the menu more responsive. No camera lens cover, but I'm not really bothered about taking photos with it - hope to get a Canon DSLR soon (EOS-400D).

I know you've already read my N95 negative review. I should probably post the positive version sometime soon, so it'll be a bit more fair - but in all honesty, I am quite happy with my N95!
