Play Are Awesome - The First DRM-Free UK MP3 Store

13th February 2008 at 18:40

As all regular readers know, I've had a long and happy history with Play, so I'm extremely pleased to see that they're the first UK company to bring us DRM-free MP3s. At last, I can stop buying my music from the Ruskies!

I went straight in to buy something, and must admit I'm a little disappointed; it's just EMI at the moment, so a lot of the artists are a bit rubbish, and - as always with Play - it's a bit of a pain to browse for what you want, or for what you might want.

But most of all, it's a shame that the albums are so expensive. Indeed, the only album I can find that I want is a mere 4p cheaper as MP3 than as a CD - for that much, I might as well wait a couple of days and have something that'll survive a crashed hard drive.

But still - definitely a step in the right direction.
