I am in your Firefox, stealing your Passwords

- Browsers have got to be the worst place to keep passwords. Of ways that attackers have into your system, your web browser has to be up there as one of the easiest.Tob25th June 2008 at 23:29
- I set remember passwords to off on anything important, but it's handy for a few sites with non-persistent sessions that I have to log into several times a day.
Mozilla seem so hell-bent on gaining more market share that they're forgetting the devs and admins who have got them where they are today. Thanks to Firefox 3, they've certainly moved up a few spots on my list - right in between Wikipedia deletionists and Debian package maintainers.radiac25th June 2008 at 22:25 - It all sounds like a reasonable complaint. I'd never have noticed it, though, had you not mentioned it, since my default setting for remembering passwords is "no". I'm certainly not going to let my browser do that.
In my opinion, remembering passwords shouldn't even be an option, and I've done my best to disable it on the sites I create. I want my users to be aware of what their passwords are at all times, since at some point, they are going to need it - and I don't want them poking their head into my office every 5 minutes asking for a new one.
Good luck with getting the Mozilla people to acknowledge it, though. The couple of times I've tried to bring stuff to their attention their reaction has been that they know best, and that they design for the majority of users - to the extent of leaving out options that would only be useful to the minority (such as stuff for mass installations in a university style setting...)Mihtjel25th June 2008 at 22:07

- Are you related to Julie Mallion? I knew she had two brothers, one of them Richard Terry. If you're the right Richard, that would make you her half brother, although you both share the family name Terry before she married.
Tx and cheers!Amanda19th June 2008 at 16:04

- They speak English in the Maldives :)Tob18th June 2008 at 23:56
- Mmm, good point - I've always fancied Norway. Something about the fjords. Although Rune seems nice, so perhaps I should give Denmark a chance too. That or buy an island and do things my way.radiac14th June 2008 at 17:41
- As Rune suggests, I think you're pushing your luck looking for an English speaking country that isn't already in the pits. That said, I've heard they speak English in Zimbabwe.
I reckon somewhere in Scandinavia is your best bet - you can get away without learning another language, and as long as you don't mind a slightly more expensive lifestyle in general, I think you'd be happy.Andrew13th June 2008 at 11:12 - I speak foreign - it's just like english, only slower and louder. If that fails, there's always the universal language of pointing!radiac13th June 2008 at 07:37
- I don't expect that there's any decent English-speaking countries left, but you can come over here to Denmark - we don't mind that you don't speak the language anyway ;-)Rune B. Broberg12th June 2008 at 19:23
Obscure Bugs Revisited: IE, HTTPS and Plugins

- A fair comment! But sadly there isn't a real alternative for a lot of stuff I need to do. Thing that gets me about this issue though is that it doesn't work for any plugin, so that would include things like secure billing pdfs - I'd have thought the problem would crop up quite frequently. Quite how they missed that in their design and testing I don't know.radiac30th May 2008 at 23:40
- Obviously, the problem is that you're using flash :)Hob30th May 2008 at 11:57

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThe eye fiend23rd May 2008 at 20:56 - Hey hey! Yes, it was excellent, even though we suffered the usual indignity of attempting to speak broken Spanish recited from quickly memorising the relevant part of a phrasebook, only to be replied to in perfect English. Ugh, I'm such a tourist ;)
But yes, it was excellent! Well worth a long weekend like we had, although there's apparently enough to do outside the city to make it worth going for a week.radiac22nd May 2008 at 19:53 - Sounds wonderful.
Glad you enjoyed it. I've been wanting to get there for a couple of years now. Soon! :D
See you around,

Yes, I sadly never found time to finish that site, and haven't even started on any of my RISC OS projects. Just too many work-related priorities getting in the way :/
Ever the optimist, I've got my RISC PC here, am still hanging on to the domain, hopeful I'll be able to do something with it one day. Lots of ideas, just no time.radiac10th May 2008 at 09:44 - Well generally speaking, I'm just a weirdo, and don't worry, we've never met. I found your site years ago via the RISC OS site you put up at one point but never bothered finishing. The Official Colour Pink9th May 2008 at 22:12
