Trip To Bath

9th May 2006 at 11:10Comment

It's been a busy week and a bit - I'm still catching up on work from my last stay in Kent, but I'm nearly on top of everything now.

But you can't work all the time, so I took last weekend off. I headed up to Bath to meet up with lots of friends from Uni, most of whom I hadn't seen for at least 10 months - there were a few faces missing, and a few new ones, but it was great to get together again. We had a meal at Feast, then went off to the Huntsman and played pool until the wee hours. I didn't have my camera with me, but I'll probably steal Nat's photos off Flikr at some point. Looking forward to the next meeting... LAAFF 2006 in Cheltenham anyone? :)

Oh, and Laura gave me a 10 day guest pass to World of Warcraft. Erk.

PGPlus: Smess update

In case any of you are running it, I've just noticed a couple of small issues with my smess code for PG+, so here's a little bugfix: smess-1.3.tar.gz. The only changes are to smess.c.

The Great Mobile Phone Adventure, Part 2

A couple of weeks ago, I rang up Orange and told them I was off to T-Mobile. Last time I did that, they put me through to their customer retention department, and sorted me out with a fantastic deal which I was very happy with. I was therefore expecting at least some resistance this time, but no, the lady just said "Oh, ok, so you'll be wanting your PAC then?"

Bye bye then, Orange. No wonder they're sacking 15% staff to cut costs, she didn't even try to get me to sign up for a cheaper plan. Damn the French, Orange was great until they bought it.

So anyway, I'm now on with T-Mobile. I rang them up on the 30th April to take advantage of the 25% off (£15 instead of £20), my mobile arrived a few days later, I charged it up, had my PAC code from Orange, and the transfer went through today. If you ring me up now, you'll now get me on my shiny new 6230i which is costing me £240+/year less. Hurrah!

Or so I thought. My mobile number now sorted out, I could register for T-Mobile online billing. Logged in, checked my account, and what is this? £17.02/month?

Yes, that's right boys and girls. 17.02 * 1.175 = £20 month. They've forgotten my 25% off. Am on hold right now while the nice chap with the Scottish accent rings through to billing.

Update: Yes, looks like they forgot to give me my 25% off. Still, all sorted now, bless them. The missing £12 of call allowance can wait until next month...

Am I A Bad Person?

Last week I was walking through the car park at the gym, when I heard bells jangling. 'Ooh, Santa', I thought, so I turned around to try to see him. I was still walking quite fast, when...

*Thud*

I felt my foot hit against something, with quite some force. I looked down.

Under my feet was the cutest kitten you have ever seen. Well, very young cat, but for all intents and purposes, I had just kicked a kitten. Hard. It must have jangled its way from between the parked cars, straight into my swinging foot. It was slightly startled, mewed at me, and ran off into the middle of the car park with its jangly collar. It stopped, turned round, gave me a dirty look and then jangled off again.

I couldn't see it when I came out of the gym later. Had I broken it? Did I crack its ribs? Was it now bleeding internally, collapsed under a hedge, cursing me with its dying breaths? Perhaps I shall never know.

Oh, and then while driving home I cut up a fully laden hearse, complete with mourner cars following in procession.

I'm going to hell.

Not just a kitten beater...

Not content with beating kittens, today I turned on Leela. I kicked her round the head, and although I didn't feel a thing, it hurt her so much she cried. Three hours later, she is still concussed and has a headache.

To be fair it was a complete accident. Well, more like complete incompetence on my part. She was sitting on the sofa, and I was trying to climb over the back to sit next to her. Unfortunately it didn't quite go as planned, and my shin - yes, the very same shin which almost killed a kitten - connected with the side of her head.

Sorry, Leela.

However, I have now installed Hitman Blood Money, so I shall be able to express my violent tendancies in that instead of the real world. But more about that later...
