So, results are out, and I got a 2:1!
Needless to say, I am most pleased :)

It is now

Well, now I am graduated!
It was the ceremony today. As ceremonies go, it was pretty cool, and now I have a bit of paper saying I'm all clever and stuff. Which is nice. But I find myself wondering - in my time at university, what have I actually learnt? I have come up with the following points:
And now I am away to the pub!

- How to use a bus
- How to cook, clean and dress myself
- How to ask a girl out, and that going out is way better than quake
- Some stuff about computers

We Love Banks

So I had a haircut yesterday, and on the way home, at about 3.45, I popped into the bank to talk to them about my bank account. In particular, how I have a student account, but am no longer a student. The girl in the front bit told me that someone was available to see me now, so I thought 'why not?' and went up.
Didn't escape till 6.20.
But I now have a new account, which appears to be pretty nifty - I get free basic AA cover, free travel insurance (sure it's not that great, but hey, it's free), and a few other random things for free, as well as up to 40% off electricals and 27% off new cars. Free stuff is always nice, eh?
So, how come I got offered all of this? Well, we worked out how much I was earning, and how much I was spending. And we subtracted spending from earning and came up with a positive number! I'm living within my means! Sure, I may not have been strictly accurate, i.e. I didn't mention my addiction to play.com. Sent them another suggestion e-mail a few days ago by the way, so watch out for sortable searches and the ability to buy things with other peoples accounts but still have them delivered to you. Bless play. Anyway, so they think that in my year off I'm actually making money, they must have thought 'ooh, promising one here'. Hahahahaha thats a good one.
So, just to make sure I am compounding their mistake, most of you will not have missed that it's Doom 3 time - in other words, time to spec up a new machine. I also have a copy of Painkiller in the post from play - saw Jared playing it the other day, it looks like fun. And at only £7.99, you can't go wrong!
In case you're wondering, I'm back in Sevenoaks teaching holiday courses again. Yay! Only mornings this week though, so thats nice. Past couple of weekends Leela has driven all the way down from Loughborough to Bath to see me, thats about 6 or 7 hours driving a weekend! I'll be going up in a couple of weekends time, but this weekend I am moving out of my Bath flat. The end of an era! Have so much stuff we've got to hire a van...
I'm also thinking of buying the graduation DVD, seeing as it's the only one that I'll ever buy that has me in it, and I buy rubbish like Secret Ninja, Roaring Tiger all the time. But at £33, it's more expensive than the Die Hard Trilogy Box Set on 6 DVDs. And the only way I'm going to spend that much on a DVD is if it has Arnie in it. Nobody even tripped over, I mean, how dull?! Perhaps I could buy it with some people in some kind of time share deal, where I get it for a day and post it on to the next person? Interested applicants should send a cheque for £40, made payable to Richard Terry. Don't forget to include the SAE for me to post the DVD back to you...
OH! And I got my £50 back from O2 after only a year and a half! Result! Time to celebrate! Hello, play.com!

How Moving
27th July 2004 at 10:042 comments
Well, I have moved out of my Bath flat, second home for two long, interesting and exciting years. I did it last weekend, that's Saturday the 24th, and I needed a van to get all the stuff home. - mostly because I had a tumble dryer which my flatmates decided at the last minute that they didn't want, giving me no time to sell it. Still, now I have a newish tumble dryer here, which will be good for replacing the ~25 year old one we have in the kitchen, which squeaks like a pregnant mouse spinning at 50 RPM, while getting blasted with hot air.
Up until Saturday, I was of the opinion that if a burglar can empty an entire house of all valuables in under 4 minutes, I should be able to empty two rooms of all my possessions in under 4 hours. Since my dad was arriving at 5pm, starting the process at 10am should therefore be perfectly adequate and leave me a few hours to relax, go to the co-op, watch some television etc.
Unfortunately, what I failed to take into consideration was that when faced with (for example) 100 metres of CAT 5 cable, split up and trailing around the house, your average thief would just skip it and go for the VCR next to it. And even if he did decide to take it, then he usually wouldn't spend time rolling it neatly and tucking in the end before putting it in a box, and he certainly wouldn't pause to take off the 4 or 5 bits of duct tape per metre.
By the time my dad arrived with his van at about 6pm, I had most things packed. I say most things; well, there were still a lot of things in the kitchen, like toasters and kettles and microwaves. But, we had loaded up the van by about 7; Tristan stayed around to help, which made things a lot easier, and after a final trip to the co-op with the usual mini cheddars and special-occasion orangina on the way back, we said goodbye and I was ready to depart.
The journey home was pretty uneventful, apart from getting re-routed off the M4 and into a T-junction on a busy road for no apparentl reason other than to delay our journey by about half an hour. Eventually we arrived home at 11pm, and unloaded the van by midnight.
Today is Tuesday, and I'm still unpacking. I'm only three boxes in...
I will finish with a short poem; Ode to a Bathroom Mat:

Oh, trusty bathroom mat,I think I've missed my true calling.
you have served us well.
I hope the you are currently
enjoying the bathroom floor.
But hey, I got all my DVDs, what do I care.
I have a new phone

My new nokia 6230 arrived yesterday, and I have been playing with it today. It's nice apart from a few small things; the main navigation button has to be pressed down, and its too easy to hit the direction keys, there are no decent backgrounds, polyphonic ring tones suck, and the battery life isn't as good as I've come to expect from nokia. Then again I have been using bluetooth and the camera all day, and it is its first charge, so we'll have to wait and see how that goes. Apart from that, it's pretty neat.
As I think I've said in a previous diary entry, I'm teaching the holiday courses again. This week... well, let's put it this way; I'm glad tomorrow is the last day... But yet again, the kids have shown me something and, as in previous years, it's a website with games, here. Well, rather than games, it's a page of links to just about every web game I've ever seen. Still, it passes the time...
