Paint The Whole World With A Rainbow ~doo de doobe doo doobe doo dee~

6th February 2003 at 17:41Comment
Well, no posts for a few days since I've been busy. And now I'm doing one, I cant remember what I've done, so this'll be fairly boring.

I'm bored. Nearly finished another website for Tonbschl, watched some of the professionals episodes, and started a new set of lectures. I'm supposed to spend over £160 on books for the modules this semester.

And amazon is evil - no wonder they've started to make a profit. I went there to price up the books. They have kept a record of every book I've ever looked at and worked out what I was likely to want, and put these lists of things I might like on every page. And it nearly worked too - on every page, I saw more books I wanted. If I'd bought everything I saw and thought 'ooh!', my order would have easily been over £300. Pain. But luckily I'm getting better at stopping myself from making foolish purchases.

Yesterday, I bought eight 6-packs of volvic (48 bottles) from Tescos online. Well, I had to, my order was only £25, and I had a £5 off token for an order of over £50.

I'm going to buy an LCD/VFD display, hook it into my machine and keep it showing me RSS feeds. It'll be kew. Pretty useless, but should only cost £80 or so...

Been playing with my graphics tablet a bit more, and have been teaching myself to draw! And let me tell you, I'm getting pretty damned good. I've got rectangles and triangles down, and elipses are really coming along fast! Like I said a little while ago, I'll put some stuff on here sometime soonish :)

Well, I'm still working on the tonbschl site. For about the 30th day running. They really are getting their moneys worth.

Still, it's not all work though... I played GTA 3 earlier, and hacked the bus a little. Its top speed is now 500km/h, and its acceleration is 100ms-2. It's also 30,000 kg and collision damage doesnt affect it, so GTA 3 has now turned into a game of snooker - try to kick the other cars on the road between the buildings / off the cliff / along the pavement. Lots of fun. For those of you with GTA 3, load up GTAIII\data\handling.cfg into notepad or something, put a ; at the start of the line starting 'COACH', and add the following line:
COACH 30000.0 2.9 8.0 3.6 0.0 0.0 0.0 90 4.00 1.0 0.52 5 500.0 100.0 4 D 5.7 0.35 1 30.0 1.5 0.04 0.3 0.0 20000 0.45 -0.25 0.5 8040 0 1
Or fancy something a bit sturdier, which can withstand bullets and tanks?
RHINO 30000.0 3.5 8.0 3.8 0.0 0.0 0.0 90 4.00 1.0 0.52 5 500.0 100.0 4 D 8.17 0.50 1 20.0 1.8 0.05 1.12 0.0 110000 0.35 -0.10 0.5 4003 0 1
Enjoy. Hmm.

Finally got round to plugging the radicam in again... I need a haircut. Also stuck my second set of christmas lights up over my computer, so I now have some light up this end of the room.

Oh well, back to the work :)

Don't You Want To Know How We Keep Starting Fires?

Was playing draughts against dan yesterday on his talker, and he seemed to have me beat - he had 3 kings and 2 non-kings, I had 1 king + 2. Well, I took out one of his non-kings, kinged one of mine, took one of his kings and kinged the other one, leaving us 3 kings v 3. I was going to crush him, it was going to be a glorious comeback and a slow, painful bone-crushing victory!

Talkers have a user hierarchy, with the HCA (hard coded administrator) at the top, ie the person who wrote it. Dan is the HCA of the talker. The HCA needs commands to help new people out when they have problems, and one of those commands is force. So, if typing 'draughts quit' would have
made him quit draughts and lose the game, you can probably guess what 'force radiac draughts quit' did.

I was not happy.

Anyway...

Ernie Ate The Internet

Went home at the weekend and went out on Friday, saw some people I knew, which was nice, got scared by some people I didnt know, which was OK, then most of the people I knew left me alone with the people I didnt know, which wasnt so nice. So I went up to see if I could find someone I knew in the Dorset. I didnt, but I found Shaun working nearby, bugged him till his shift ended, then we went to the pub and he DJ'd for a bit. A thrilling evening, as I am sure my vacuous tonbschl followers will agree. Even though Saturday got off to an exciting start (I had a haircut), it ended up being less eventful; Jamie decided he'd prefer to eat than meet me at the pub, and rather than find myself stranded with strangers again, I decided to stay at home and watch films.

The most sucessful part of the weekend was the fact that I filled up my salt pot.

Hmm, havent posted in a while, anything else?

Got my exam results, I passed. Did pretty well on one of them, rest were OK, no total disasters, which was good. A surprise, but good.

Tried running Ernie a little earlier on a site I'm working on. The site linked to another website, and Ernie was supposed to look at the other website and say 'yep, it's there'. Instead, it said 'ooh, this looks interesting', and promptly started wombling across the internet. I returned to find it onto its fourth website. So anyway, I have fixed that and added a 'WAR' status to the status column, and you can now download Ernie 1.2.6 from my perl section.

Ernie likes the pretty pictures

Added a bunch of images to a site, so thought rather than check them all manually, I'd get Ernie to do it for me. So, you can now download Ernie 1.3.6 from my perl section, as either a tar.gz or a zip.

Another site done...

I've finished another site now, again for tonbschl... This time, a higher education guide, for all the kids doing their a-levels.

And I'm going to cook. I've bought ingredients and implements and stuff. I am a bit disappointed with the hand mixer I bought though:

I was expecting a miniature famous TV chef in a box, who would use a cunning combination of his hands, pepper grinder and magical mixing device to make, mix and cook my food. But get this; it wasn't, I just got the magical mixing device. Think I'll take it back tomorrow.

I Made Cake

I made some cakes today:

and they tasted good. Well, not according to Tristan of course, but never mind.

I've spent 4 hours sitting extremely uncomfortably on the floor trying to get my linux machine to recognise a dedicated DVD decoder card, so that it won't suck at playing DVDs any more. I failed miserably, of course, but never mind.

I washed my clothes

I have an hour, and I'm going to write an entry

Wednesday was fun. I'm kinda part of the committee of the new computer science society here at Bath - I say kinda, because I get to make up my title and decide what I do. We have christened the comittee the kernel, and as Peter said, that kinda makes us modules :p

Anyway, Wednesday was the first day that we did anything apart from have meetings and talk about setting things up and set things up - we had a social. Plan was we'd go down to Quasar at 6pm, shoot each other and have fun. We got there at 6pm, and found that our social secretary hadn't booked it, so we went to a pub for an hour and a half, we drank, and then we went back over to Quasar. We arrived to find our opponents already waiting for us; they were about 8. We remained sure of our superiority, both in skill and numbers, and with our two veterans (Andy and Tony) we weren't discouraged even when we heard them chatting about their previous skirmishes. Some of us made a beeline for the toilets (remember the drinking?), while the rest of our team sat and watched the instruction video. We returned just in time to hear the instructor guy say 'OK, the teams are a bit unbalanced... would anyone on the Red team like to swap to the green?'. And of course, Andy and Tony swapped. At this point we did start to lose our nerves. Never mind... we went in anyway, and defended our base mercillesly. It was fun. Simon did Van-Damme-style slides and scared the kids, but Nat got tripped up by one of the evil little bastards, and hurt her knee. I ran around in a state of perpetual confusion (no change there), and shot at things. My top score was 27000 and something. You lose 100 points every time you get shot. I ended up with 6000ish. We walked out with the silly little kids gloating and saying how crap we were and how they'd won. Imagine our glee when we found out we had won. It was a glorious victory. You know what's best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.

It's my birthday tomorrow. I'm going to be 20.
