A Productive Day

Installed ADSL in my dad's office, debugged and completed the events script for the Tonbridge School website, added controls to the virtual tour pictures, then broke the events script, and added support for WAP to USML, so the tonbschl site now has a WAP-based diary of events. Neato :)
Well, nearly time for bed, methinks :)

Thank God, It's An Anniversary Special
11th September 2002 at 13:24Comment
It's really great that the main TV channels are running a September 11th anniversary special, I felt they didn't give it enough attention last year. I mean, it only lasted what, 5 or 6 months? It's outrageous, they really didnt give us a chance to deal with the terrible loss of approximately 2801 people. This horiffic act of terrorism puts the billions who died in the preceding century due to terrorism, war, famine, sanctions and natural or unnatural disasters into perspective; people die all the time, but never so many innocent civilians in an unprovoked attack on American soil.
So I sit here in thanks to the BBC, ITV and most of Sky, while I watch the Americans in the service in London incorrectly mouthing the words to their own national anthem, and feel Good about the way that we have pledged our support to that fine country, a fine country who have probably reduced their financial support for terrorist groups around the world this past year, such as the IRA (who, when you think about it, weren't really that bad after all), a fine country who, with our support, has already liberated Afghanistan with only a few thousand civilian casualties, and, with God's good grace, we shall continue on to liberate the people of Iraq and Zimbabe, and all the other oppressed members of this planet from the tyranny of governments who refuse to fall in line run their countries the right way.
God bless us, God bless our governments and TV stations, and God bless America.

weekend out in Sevenoaks before going back to uni. Had good fun tonight :)
I've had an up and down kinda holiday, as those who know will know and those who dont wont :)
Still, could have been worse, and on Monday I move into my new house! Which doesnt have a phone line, gas or hot water, but it does have electricity. Can't be too greedy now, can we...
To those of you I know who are off to uni now, have fun! Those of you I don't know who are off to uni now, have fun! Everyone else, your children will be ugly and unloved, if you ever manage to have any.
Yup, drunk and bored. Again.

Been playing the UT2003 demo a bit. Looks like it'll be a good game... it's very pretty, nice weapons, interesting powerup system etc. But Doom 3 will kick it's ass :)
Had better ring the landlady person soon. Need to sort out the phone line...

I'm in my new flat in Bath. Got here yesterday, sorted out the phone line, ordered ADSL and got the fridge working. Today Doug came over from Bristol, we ate pizza and had a chat before he left. I unpacked some stuff, and now I'm on the internet again.
Tomorrow I'll sort out the gas. It's kinda chilly here.

Hiya. Been a while since I've made an entry - kinda been without internet for a while. Am sitting in the uni library waiting for my next lecture (6.15, gah!), so thought I'd post. Cos I'm like that. And bored.
Um, uh, right, what's been happening. House is good. Everything seems to work, it's in a good location and we now have ADSL, or at least we will when I can work out how to get the router working. Spent about an hour playing today, couldn't get it working. Problems with IP addresses and netmasks. Joy. Anyway, in case there are some of you who don't follow my ramblings as closely as you should, this year I'm sharing the 1st and 2nd floors of a house with Tristan, Elfie and Jason. Jason is working in Reading for 6 months, Elfie is doing Architecture, and I appear to have irritated Tristan by pointing out that ADSL lines go faster than T1, and that, in fact, you can only get about 180k/sec as a theoretical maximum on a T1, rather than the megs/sec he said. So he went off on his own. And then after a lecture when we'd met up again and I said I didnt want to play pool, he did it again. I'll probably see him in 10 minutes, so well, we'll see :)
Hmm, uh, what else. Nothing much. Got me a bus pass and NUS card... I'll try and get the passport photos I'm using scanned, they're rather good. Think my ears are sunburnt, which is impressive. My timetable is a joke this year... the 2nd years live off campus, so they decided it would be a good idea to give them as many 9.15s and 6.15s on the same day as they can, with one or two in the middle of the day to completely ruin it. Today is one of those days.
Anything else? Don't think so.

ADSL works in our house now :) Our rooms are networked, and I got to check my email for the first time in a week:

And, as promised, here's my passport photo:

Been playing UT2003 demo a lot. It's fun.
We bought a microwave yesterday. Very shiny and beepy and has green lights and is nice.
My TV is arriving sometime in the next 4.25 hours. Very exciting.

I have a television, and mir plays stuff into it fairly well. Am working on a perl-based curses menu to fire up various programs over a lirc-based control system. It should be cool :)
Anyway, I've run out of things to do, and I've got a 9.15 tomorrow, so had better go to bed.
Oh, can't remember if I posted a link to this game. If I did, I shouldn't have, it's far too addictive.
